After he was honorable discharged for medical reasons, he went on to college going to Lee College and Middle Tennessee State before eventually getting a degree. It was during this time he spent many evenings tinkering with a device to more efficiently heat water which he used to building a successful business which he eventually sold. During this time, he and his wife traveled to various places around the world for conferences and testing his device. Having moved around during this time, he finally settled in Acworth, GA.
