Obituary for Jerry Wayne Bennett

Mr. Jerry Wayne Bennett, age 64, of Rome, GA passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 in a Rome medical center.

He was born in Rome, GA on July 15, 1952, a son of the late Albert Lee Bennett and the late Mary Ruth Owens Bennett. Mr. Bennett lived most of his life in Rome where he worked in construction and was of the Church of God faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Haney; infant daughter, Christy Diane Bennett; step son, Darrell Smith and sister, Patricia Ballard.

Survivors include his two sons: David Wayne Shiflett and his wife Lorie, Rome and Shane Bennett, Rome; five step children: Sherri Baker, Penny Smith, Brenda White, Terry Smith and Andy Smith; eighteen grandchildren including special granddaughters: Stacey Mullis and Natasha Smith; fifteen great grandchildren; three sisters: Shirley Henderson and her husband Doyle, Aragon; Diane Edwards and her husband Michael, Aragon and Peggy Stegall and her husband Billy, Silver Creek; brother, Douglas Bennett and his wife Debra, Cartersville; mother of his son David and a special member of the Bennett family, Bobbie Jean Shiflett; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Sexton officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Michael Edwards officiating.

Pallbearers will include: Patrick Ballard, John Hooper, David Wayne Shiflett, Michael Mullis, Justin Bennett and Titus McGuire.

The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 PM until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Jerry Wayne Bennett.
