Agnes Elizabeth Pope

Mrs. Agnes Elizabeth Pope, age 81, of 1577 Doyle Road, Cedartown, GA passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008 in a Rome Medical Center following a brief illness.


She was born in Taylorsville, GA on February 27, 1927 a daughter of the late Reggie Godfrey and Ethel Dover Godfrey. Mrs. Pope lived her early years in the Kingston area before moving to Polk county where she had lived the greater part of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Seney Baptist Church.


Mrs. Pope was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. John L. Pope on November 19, 1975, by her second husband, Mr. Henry Pope on May 2, 1992, by three children, Darlene Betty Pope on February 20, 1993, John Marvin Pope on April 2, 2001 and Patricia Jean Pope on August 27, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Godfrey, four half sisters: Evelyn Ely, Retha Pritchett, Martha Roberson and Ruth Quarles; and three half brothers: Ray Ely, Ralph Ely and Charlie Ely.

Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Mary Jane McDaniel and her husband John of Silver Creek and Mrs. Elizabeth Carol Ewers and her husband Larry of Cedartown; one son, Rev. Paul H. Pope and his wife Patricia of Cedartown; two half sisters: Mrs. Mildred Beck and Mrs. Clara Mae Deems both of Aragon; three half brothers: Mr. Carl Ely, Aragon , Mr. Junior Ely, Rome and Mr. Ronald Ely, Aragon; 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren also survive.


Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 24th at 2:00 p.m. in the Seney Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Pope and Rev. Johnny Sisson officiating. Interment will follow in the Aragon Cemetery.


Active pallbearers will include: Scotty Ward, Chris Ullery, John Pope, Tracy Pope, Richie Justice, Tony Styles and Robert Garner. Honorary pallbearers will include: Matthew and Mitchell Ewers.


The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and at other hours may be contacted at the residence of Rev. Paul H. and Patricia Pope, 1571 Doyle Rd., Cedartown.
