Mr. Bennie Joe McCown, age 73, of Rockmart passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014 at his residence following several months of illness.

He was born in Rockmart, GA on June 28, 1941 a son of the late James and Elsie Mae McCown. Mr. McCown had lived all of his life in Rockmart where he was a 1959 graduate of Rockmart High School. He was a former Polk County Commissioner and worked for Forsyth Ford Company for 28 years as parts manager. He retired from Auto Parts Company in Rockmart. Mr. McCown was a member of the Victory Baptist Church and was a former member of the Bellview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sue McCown to whom he was married on July 2, 1976; four children: Rodney McCown, Toni Lynn Davis and husband Ken, Robbie McCown and Steve Doegg; two sisters: Paulette Fincher and Judy Robinson; nine grandchildren, one great grandson , a number of nieces and nephews and special caregiver Susan Doegg.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Wright and Rev. Owen (Bud) Davis officiating and granddaughter Cassie Doegg Little delivering a eulogy. Interment will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include: Cody Doegg, Jordan Doegg, Max Doegg, Jory McCown, Reed Little and Donald Cleveland.

The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home
