Bertha Lee Mccollum Brewer

Mrs. Bertha Lee McCollum Brewer, age 101, of Rockmart, GA passed away Monday, January 30, 2012 in the local nursing center.


She was born in Cedartown, GA on November 7, 1910, a daughter of the late Whitton McCollum and the late Mattie Jacobs McCollum. She had lived most of her life in Polk County and in recent years was residing in Rockmart Nursing Home, moving there from the Calloway Apartments. Mrs. Brewer was a loving wife and homemaker to her late husband, John Robert (Bob) Brewer. They were married on May 26, 1929 and spent forty two wonderful years together. She enjoyed cooking for the family, and was a member of the Van Wert Baptist Church.


She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert (Bob) Brewer, Sr.; son, John Robert Brewer, Jr.; sister, Lucy Wood; and brother, Thomas D. McCollum.


Survivors include her son, Rev. James E. Brewer and his wife Evelyn, Rockmart; seven grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren also survive.


Graveside funeral and interment services will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in Polk Memory Gardens with Rev. Jerome Smith and Rev. R.B. Hulsey officiating.


Pallbearers will include: Jonathan Brewer, Jeff Brewer, Larry Pittman, Eddie Wood, Johnny Wood and Ronald Herrick. Honorary pallbearers will include: Larry McCollum, David McCollum, Billy Wood, William Wood, David Nales and Michael Nales.


The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
