Betty Hutchings Hill

Mrs. Betty Hutchings Hill of 104 Duck Bill Cove, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, December 24, 2009 following a four year illness.


She was born in Rockmart, GA on September 6, 1935 a daughter of Hugh Hutchings and Ida Mae Crawford Hutchings. Betty was a graduate of Rockmart High School where she was active in the band. She was also a majorette, a manager of the girls basketball team and an avid tennis player. Following her graduation from Rockmart she attended Auburn University. Mrs. Hill was a member of the Palms Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville Beach, FL. Mrs. Hill was active in the children?s department of the Presbyterian Church for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Hill had lived in Columbia, S.C., Athens, GA, Ft. Myers, FL, Birmingham, AL, Orange County, CA, San Jose, CA, Beverly Hills, FL, Port St. Joe, FL, Rome, GA and Ponte Vedra FL. She served as a teacher?s aide while living in California and also drove a van for the handicapped while living in Orange County, CA.


She was preceded in death by her parents and by three brothers: Charles, Brice and Hugh Hutchings.


Survivors include her husband, Mr. Buford Hill of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL to whom she was married on April 4, 1954; three children: Mrs. Libby Renn, Sylacauga, AL, Mrs. Frances Huston, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Mr. Richard Hill, Athens, GA; one grandson, Jonathan Huston and numerous nieces and nephews.


Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rockmart Presbyterian Church with Rev. Maryellen Hittel officiating. Interment will follow in Dalton, GA in the Hill family lot.


In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the Taunton Family Childrens Home, P.O. Box 870 Weewahhitchka, FL 32465 in Mrs. Hills memory.


A reception will follow the memorial service at the home of Ms George Anna Watson, 726 Oakcrest Drive, Rockmart, GA.
