Billy Wayne Akins

Mr. Billy Wayne Akins, age 61, of Rockmart passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in a Rome medical center following a nine month illness.


He was born in Aragon, GA on April 28, 1950, son of Minnie Lee Godfrey Akins and the late Arthur Doyl (Tom) Akins. Mr. Akins had lived all of his life in Polk County and had worked as an equipment operator for 25 years with Benefield Construction. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Doyl (Tom) Akins on May 17, 2011.


Survivors include his mother, Minnie L. Akins, Rockmart; two sisters: Nancy Holliday, Rockmart and Brenda Akins, Rockmart; two brothers: Tommy Akins, Rockmart and Howard Powell, Aragon; niece, Jessica Watkins, Rockmart; great niece, Braylee Grace Watkins, Rockmart.


Funeral services will be held Friday, February 3, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. C.E. Estes officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.


Pallbearers will include: Larry Haney, Mike Haney, Tim Post, Starling Powell, Nick Gibbs and Edward Akins. Honorary pallbearers will include: Bobby Mullinax, Bobby Haney, Gary Simmons, Jimmy Harper and Randall Atkins.


The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
