Charles (Bo) Mercer, Sr.

Mr. Charles (Bo) Mercer, Sr., age 83, of Rockmart, GA passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Rockmart, GA on October 13, 1931 a son of the late Jim Mercer and Pearl Parham Mercer. Mr. Mercer had lived all of his life in Polk County where he was a member of the Hills Creek Baptist Church. He retired from the General Motors Lakewood assembly plant with twenty nine years of service. Mr. Mercer loved to farm, fish , spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and for several years coached girls softball. He was a member of the Rockmart Masonic Lodge # 97 F. & A.M. for over fifty years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Deborah Ann Mercer in 1956, by a grandson Brian Mercer in 1989, by a sister, Rachel Simpson and an infant brother.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth Mercer to whom he was married on March 18, 1951; four children: Charles William Mercer, Jr., Ricky Mercer, Donna Cornwell and Patricia Wheeler all of Rockmart; nine grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hills Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald McPherson and Rev. Bobby Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the Hills Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the West Georgia Memorial Masonic Club in charge of Masonic Graveside Rites.

Pallbearers will include: Darrell Kay, Mickey White, James Campbell, Eric Mercer, Richard Taylor, Greg Brumbelow, Stanley Krawiec and Kenneth Cornwell.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
