Charlotte Joan Akins

Mrs. Charlotte Joan Akins, age 68, of Hilton Head, South Carolina and formerly of Rockmart passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in South Carolina.

She was born in Aragon, GA on October 26, 1946 a daughter of Charlie Akins and Mae Shepard Akins. Joan lived the early years of her life in Rockmart before moving to Illinois. In the early 1980's she returned to Georgia and had made her home in Gainesville, GA until recently having moved to Hilton Head, SC. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her parents, by a sister, Lillian Gammill and a brother, William "Sonny" Akins.

Survivors include her husband, Don Lewis Hilton Head, SC; daughter, Terri Greehling Buckley and husband, Roger, Gainesville, GA; son, William Greehling, Sr. and wife Hope, Gainesville, GA; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two sisters: Annette Chaloka of Arkansas and Lois Yowell of Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Clifton Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include: Roger Buckley, Bobby George, Christopher Wall, William Greehling, Sr., William Greehling, II and Benjamin Greehling.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.
