Darrell K. Hammonds

Mr. Darrell K. Hammonds, age 70, of 2 Walton Way, Rockmart passed away Monday, May 11, 2009 at his residence following an illness of five years.


He was born in Rockmart, GA on September 30, 1938 a son of the late Perry N. Hammonds and Quennie Bell Reynolds Hammonds. Mr. Hammonds had lived all of his life in Rockmart where he was a member of the Second Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of the General Motors Corporation having worked in Quality Control in the Lakewood Assembly Plant for 27 years. Mr. Hammonds was a member and Past Master of the William G. England Daylight Lodge # 747 F. & A.M. and a member and Past Master of Davitte Lodge # 513 F. & A.M.. He was also a member and Past Patron of Eastern Star Chapter # 321 and Eastern Star Chapter # 148 located in Decatur, GA.
Mr. Hammonds was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Margie Ann Hammonds on April 7, 1998 and by a sister, Emma June Hammonds.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annelle Hammonds of Rockmart to whom he was married on June 26, 2005; four children: Rita Jordan, Rockmart, Kimberly Sue Taylor, Aragon, Darren Hammonds, Rockmart and Donna Pilcher, Kingston; one step daughter, Anne Tabor, Lynn Haven, FL; one brother, Edwin Hammonds, Cedartown; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.


Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart with Rev. Ed Pasley, Rev. Delton Harne and Rev. David Warriner officiating. Mr. Darren Hammonds will deliver a eulogy. Interment will follow in the Smyrna Methodist Church Cemetery of Paulding County with the West Georgia Memorial Club in charge of Masonic Graveside Rites.


Pallbearers will include: Dillard Quinn, Duane Fennell, Bobby Townsend, James Thacker, Lanier Richards and Jim Underwood. Honorary pallbearers will include: Nathan Dean, Jerry McDurmon, Alan Raby, Edgar Tant and Robert Allen.


The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
