Dorothy Ozelle Wadsworth

Dorothy Ozelle Bailey Wadsworth, 86,of Rockmart who possessed a secure hope in Jesus Christ our Lord, died peacefully at her home on November 7, 2008 after an illness of five months.


Born October 2, 1922 at Milstead, Rockdale County, Georgia, she was the seventh of nine children of the late George Shelton Bailey and Katie Asalee Tant Bailey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Pershing Henry Wadsworth, to whom she was married on October 12, 1941; her brothers, Rev. Clyo Bailey, Shelton Bailey, Claude Bailey, Olin Bailey, Lease Bailey; a nephew who was raised as her brother, Curtis Taylor; two sisters, Estelle Bailey Cox and Gladys Bailey Spinks.


She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Marilyn Wadsworth of Rockmart; one sister, Earline Bailey Carnes of Villa Rica; one sister-in-law, Virginia Bailey of Carrollton; three granddaughters, Linda Wadsworth Garey of Baltimore, MD, Melissa ?Missy? Wadsworth of Rockmart, and Tammy Wadsworth Thompson of Cedartown; and four great grandchildren, James Thompson, Annah Nash, Michael Garey and John Pershing Garey.


Mrs. Wadsworth was retired from the Goodyear Mill in Rockmart. She had been an active member of the Second Baptist Church in Rockmart for 52 years.


The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Wright, Rev. Lamar Wadsworth, and Dr. Bob Ballance officiating. Music will be presented by Rusty Gunter. The scripture lessons will be read by Elizabeth Kinnebrew, Wanda Key and John Murray.


Pallbearers will be Rev. Robert Darden, Gary Key, Michael Garey, Nick Carnes, James Cox, and Rev. Eddie Allen.


The service of Christian burial will take place in Rockmart Memorial Gardens with Rev. Catherine Ballance officiating.


The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
