Dwight Jackson

Mr. Dwight Jackson, age 60, of 96 Wheeler Road Rockmart passed away Monday, December 7, 2009 in a Rome Medical Center.

He was born in Rockmart, GA on January 11, 1949 a son of B.F. Jackson and Catherine McDowell Jackson. Dwight had lived all of his life in the Rockmart area where he attended Rockmart High School and Coosa Valley Technical College. He was a former employee of the Goodyear Mill and later worked as a heating and air conditioning technician with Haney Supply Company. Mr. Jackson was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rockmart. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1968 to 1970 in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star.

He was preceded in death by his parents B.F. and Catherine Jackson and by a brother, Michael Charles Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jackson to whom he was married on March 3, 1972; three children: Sandy Jackson Turner, Terry Dwight Jackson and Marcus Clifton Stringer, IV all of Rockmart; two sisters: Brenda Hembree and Janice Tant; one brother, Jeff Jackson all of Rockmart. Six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Davis, Rev. Royce Campbell and Rev. Steve Kemp officiating. Interment will follow in the Sardis Cemetery with the Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.

Pallbearers will include: Greg McDowell, Randy Turner, Scott Williams, Bill Gates, Larry Cole and John Carter. Troy Clark and Mike Carter will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
