Floyd Coalson

Mr. Floyd Coalson, age 81, of 380 Atlanta Highway, Rockmart passed away Tuesday, February 5th. in a Rome Medical Center following several months of declining health.


He was born in the County Line Community of Polk county on December 28, 1926 a son of the late Aubrey Washington Coalson and Minnie Moody Coalson. Mr. Coalson had live all of his life in the Rockmart area where he was a member of the Second Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Phillipines during World War II. Mr. Coalson worked in the textile industry for many years and retired from the Goodyear Mill.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ann Coalson on September 9, 2007; by brothers: Herbert and Wilbur Coalson and by a sister, Annie Mae Christopher.


Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Jan Carruth and her husband Jimmy of Dallas and Mrs. Joan Upton, Rockmart; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, Mr. J.T. Coalson, Rome and one sister, Mrs. Jeanette Waits, Rockmart.


Funeral services were held Thursday, February 7th. at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Parish officiating. Interment followed in Rockmart Memorial Gardens.


Pallbearers included: Jason Parish, Eli Sorrells, Alic Hitchcock, Mike Hitchcock, Larry Waits and Jonathan Jones.
