Gary Kenneth (Ken) Taylor, Sr.

Mr. Gary Kenneth (Ken) Taylor, Sr., age 67, of Rockmart, GA passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 in a Rome medical center.

Ken was born in Aragon, GA on October 3, 1948 a son of the late Joe Franklin Taylor and Jewell Smith Taylor. He had lived the greater part of his life in Polk County, was a member of the VanWert Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. He worked as a truck driver for 37 years. After retirement he returned to work as a bus driver for the Paulding County school system. Ken enjoyed reading, spending time with his family and Bible study.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Taylor and a sister Brenda Allen.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Taylor of Rockmart to whom he was married on April 17, 1971;three sons: Greg Taylor(Amanda), Rockmart, Kenny Taylor(Skyler McKissick), Lafayette and Matt Taylor (Kellie), Rockmart; two boys he called his sons: Jason Hulsey (Meagan), Rockmart and Vince Upton (Nicki),Rockmart; three brothers: Ronnie Taylor, Silver Creek, David Taylor, Aragon and Randy Taylor, Clinton, SC; seventeen grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Swift and Rev. Danny Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in the Taylorsville Cemetery with the Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion delivering military rites.

Pallbearers will include: Keith Akins, Charles Henderson, Anthony Taylor, Dion Thacker, Thomas Taylor and Tony Taylor. Cecil Renfroe and Davis Sproull will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
