Homer “Clay” Johnson

Mr. Homer “Clay” Johnson, age 62, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Wednesday evening, May 24, 2023.


Clay was born in Cedartown, GA, on July 15, 1960, a son of Mary Fortune Johnson and the late Homer Leroy Johnson. He had lived all his life in Rockmart and was a veteran of the United States National Guard. Clay worked for Murata Industries for over 30 years and enjoyed helping his brother-in-law at the sawmill. Clay was a former little league baseball coach and loved to tinker with small engines and cutting grass. He spent time watching westerns on TV and listening to country music but cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.


In addition to his father, Clay was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Johnson, and two sisters, Marsha Born and Tami Cassel.


Clay is survived by his wife of twenty one years, Kathy McDurmon Johnson, whom he married April 15, 2002; children, Brett (Bonnie) Johnson, and Evan (Krista) Johnson, all of Rockmart; step-sons, Todd (Brooke) Jones and Tim (Jodi) Jones, all of Rockmart; step-daughter, Mallory Jones of Rockmart; twenty-four grandchildren, Sulli, Sawyer, Sorrell, Stetson, Archer, Aiden, Jordan, Landra, Luke, Brody, Bryce, Angel, Autumn, Micaela, Austin, Graysen, Braxton, Cason, Lindsey, Jordan, Braylon, Camrin, Maleigha, and Tristan; mother, Mary Johnson; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Norma Garcia, Kim Barber, Shawn Waits, Lynn Tidwell, and Beth Daniel. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services for Clay will be held Friday afternoon, May 26, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Tucker and Rev. Colt Deems officiating. Interment will follow in Northview Cemetery of Cedartown.


Clay’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Friday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.


Pallbearers will include Koty Smith, Kevin Smith, Brett Johnson, Evan Johnson, Shane Roberts, and Keith Roberts.


Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home & Crematory has charge of the arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Homer “Clay” Johnson.
