Horace Campbell

November 25, 1926 — March 3, 2009

Mr. Horace Campbell, age 82, of 341 Clarkwood Road, Rockmart passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009 following several months of illness.


He was born on November 25, 1926 a son of the late Gilbert Campbell and Rilla Haynie Campbell. Mr. Campbell had lived his entire life in Polk County and until his death was the oldest living charter member of the Morning View Baptist Church. He retired in 1988 from the Goodyear Mill as a supervisor. Following his retirement from Goodyear he worked as a Security Guard with Tip Top Poultry of Rockmart.


Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Doris Kelley Campbell to whom he was married on February 26, 1944; one daughter, Mrs. Shelva Ruff; two sons: Mr. Jerry Campbell and wife Wanda and Mr. Tim Campbell and wife Sue; one sister, Mrs. Erlene Cole; two brothers: Mr. William Campbell and wife Velma and Rev. Royce Campbell and wife Clora, all of Rockmart; four grandsons: Chant Campbell, Jeremy Campbell, Justin Campbell and Josh Campbell; one great granddaughter, Cortney Campbell ; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Owen Davis, Jr. and Rev. Royce Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.


Active pallbearers will include: Chant Campbell, Jeremy Campbell, Justin Campbell, Josh Campbell, Keith Sorrells and Brian Purser. Honorary pallbearers will include: Dean Pharo, Glenn Sorrells, Greg Campbell, Rodney Hutcheson, J.B. Holland, William Jones and Randy Rayburn.


The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.


The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Horace Campbell.
