Hugh Dorsey Guthrie, Jr..

Mr. Hugh Dorsey Guthrie, Jr., age 81, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Guthrie was born in Lyons, GA, on September 14, 1941, son of the late Hugh Dorsey Guthrie, Sr., and Emily Edmondson Guthrie. He had been a resident of Rockmart since 2009, moving here from Jefferson, GA, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Guthrie was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a truck driver with Williams Brothers Concrete and a cattle rancher. Mr. Guthrie loved football and was an avid University of Georgia and Atlanta Falcons football fan. He enjoyed offshore fishing and boats.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Guthrie was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan Guthrie.

Mr. Guthrie is survived by his wife, Sally Elizabeth Youngman Guthrie, whom he married August 26, 2009; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Josh Long of Rockmart; granddaughter and her husband, Alexis and Lance Stiles of Rockmart; grandson, Axle Long of Rockmart; great-granddaughter, Caroline Stiles of Rockmart; brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Beverly Guthrie of Montana; sister and brother-in-law, Kay and David Autry of Auburn, AL. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Graveside memorial services for Mr. Guthrie will be Monday, July 10, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. in Georgia National Cemetery with family and friends delivering eulogies and military rites to follow.
