Hugh Lee Thornton

Mr. Hugh Lee Thornton, age 76, of Hiram, GA passed away Friday, July 24, 2020 in Wellstar Paulding Hospital.

He was born in Rome, GA on October 11, 1943 the son of Roy Thornton and Estelle Chupp Thornton. Mr. Thornton had been a resident of Hiram for the past seven years moving there from the Yorkville community of Paulding County. He was a member of the Crossroads Memorial Baptist Church, a veteran of the United States Army and had worked as a carpenter for Local 225 for a number of years. Mr. Thornton had worked for Plateau Excavation as a heavy equipment operator since 2001. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and trading automobiles.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jo Compton Thornton on January 17, 2011.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Paris Thornton of Hiram to whom he was married on February 16, 2013; daughter, Pam Henry (Kenny), Aragon; son, Shane Thornton, Sr. (Jennifer), Dallas; four grandchildren: Addie Thornton, Shane Thornton, Jr., Emma Thornton and Allie Thornton.

Funeral services for Mr. Thornton will be held Sunday, July 26, 2020 at 4:00 pm in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Don Rackley officiating. Interment will follow in the Yorkville Memorial Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post # 12 Honor Guard of the American Legion providing Military Honors.

Pallbearers will include: Devon Womack, Shane Thornton, Jr., Nathan O’Neal, Parker O’Neal, Avery O'Neal and Joel Hanson.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 pm until the funeral hour at the funeral home. Social distancing rules are to be applied.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Hugh Lee Thornton.
