Ira Gober

Mr. Ira Gober, age 97, of 234 Piedmont Ave., Rockmart passed away suddenly Sunday, November 23, 2008 at his residence.


He was born in Paulding County, GA on October 8, 1911 a son of the late John William Gober and Ettie Kansas Carter Gober. Mr. Gober had lived most of his life in Rockmart where he was a member of the Church of Christ. He was employed by the Polk County Road Department for five years, later working for the Goodyear Mill for twelve years and retired from the Simmons Bedding Company where he was employed for twenty seven years. Following his retirement he worked for ten additional years with Wilsons Super Save Supermarket.


He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Mrs. Clara Martin Gober on April 16, 2004, by a son, Mr. Jon Gober on October 12, 1989, a daughter, Mrs. Ginger Wright on May 4, 2003 and by a brother, Mr. Rufus Gober.


Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Shirley King and her husband Ralph of Rockmart and Mrs. Jan Julian and her husband David of Marietta; two sons, Mr. Lanny Gober and his wife Judy of Rockmart and Mr. Tim Gober, Carrollton; one brother, Mr. Max L. Gober, Rockmart; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Ministers Craig Hallman and Alvis Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.


Grandsons serving as pallbearers include: Vincent Wright, Dr. Glenn King, Greg Gober, Dr. Kelly Gober, Kevin Gober, Dr. Daniel Gober and Chandler Julian.


The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
