James Donald Motes

Mr. James Donald Motes, age 80, of 278 Oak Hill Drive, Rockmart passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Bartow County on December 3, 1928 a son of John William Motes and Mattie Siniard Motes. Mr. Motes had lived the greater part of his life in Polk County and retired in 1987 from Star Manufacturing Company with 22 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Motes was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Raiford Motes and by two sisters Floy T. Morgan and Margie Shiflett.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jeanette Carlton Motes of Rockmart to whom he was married on September 9, 1950; one daughter, Mrs. Lynn Graves and her husband Jim, Taylorsville; two sisters: Mrs. Frances Gribble, Aragon and Mrs. Ann Dodd, Hiram; two step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 4, 2009 at 12 noon in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Don Spears and Rev. Jeff Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Nephews will serve as active pallbearers and include: Steve Dodd, Mike Dodd, Adron Jefferson, Scott Roberts, Jason Carter and Kyle Carlton. Honorary pallbearers will include: Larry Campbell, Bobby Joe Phillips, Harvey"Snook" Smith, Douglas Dodd,Billy Holbrooks and Melvin Roberts.

The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10 a.m until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. James Donald Motes.
