James O. (Jim) Clark

August 27, 1926 — July 22, 2009

Mr. James O. (Jim) Clark of 47 View Drive, Rome, GA passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009.


Mr. Clark was born in Hattiesburg, MS on August 27, 1926, a son of the late Tillon E. Clark and Wydell Westerfield Clark. Mr. Clark moved to Rome in 2007 from Hattiesburg. Jim volunteered for service in the Navy during World War II where he served on two ships in the South Pacific. Following his honorable discharge as a Seaman 1st Class, he attended school at the University of Southern Mississippi and the Jackson School of Law, now Mississippi College. Before his retirement in 1986 as Regional Vice President in Memphis , TN, he worked for 38 years with the Commercial Credit Group of Property/Casualty Insurance Companies. His work was primarily in Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee.


Survivors include his wife Polly Clark, a son, Michael O. Clark and his wife Kathryn of Rome, a Daughter, Cynthia C. Montgomery of Seattle, WA, two grandsons, Steven Hatcher and his wife Cassy, and Jason Clark and his wife Lynn, one granddaughter Ashley C. Smith and her husband Jack and two precious great granddaughters, Katelyn Ann and Anna Grace Clark.


Mr. Clark was a member of First Baptist Church of Rome. Before moving to Georgia he had served as a deacon in First Baptist Church of Horn Lake, MS and First Baptist Church, Hattiesburg, MS. He was a member of American Legion Post 67, Canton, MS where he served as Vice Commander for several years.


Local memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Rome with Dr. Joel Snyder officiating. A memorial will follow Thursday July 30, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Hattiesburg, MS at the Dixie Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Holder officiating. Interment will follow in the Dixie Cemetery.


Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church of Rome or to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Clark.
