Mr. Joe Thomas Cosby, age 91, of 400 Hendrix Road Rockmart passed away suddenly Saturday, October 24, 2009 at his residence

He was born in Haralson County, GA on August 6, 1918 a son of the late Wyatt B. Cosby, Sr. and Elsie Wilson Cosby. Mr. Cosby had lived in Polk County the greater part of his life and was a member and Deacon of the Felton Baptist Church. He was a retired self employed brick mason , a member of Local 36 and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Cosby was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II from 1943 until 1945. While in the Navy he served in the Pacific Theatre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Cosby on September 22, 2006; by two sons: Jimmy Cosby on May 8, 1955 and Ed Cosby on March 30, 2009 ; by three sisters: Jean Gordon, Winiford Cox and Margaret Williford and one brother, Wyatt B. Cosby, Jr..

Survivors include a daughter in law, Mrs. Jacqueline Cosby, Rockmart; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. R.B. Hulsey and Rev. Buddy Privett officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post 12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.


Pallbearers will include: Tim Floyd, Lonnie Wilson, Luther Wilson, Doil Morgan, Ronald Campbell and Joseph Cosby.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. Joe Thomas Cosby.
