John Foster (Pat) Austin

December 22, 1919 — January 1, 2010

Mr. John Foster (Pat) Austin, age 90, of Rockmart passed away Friday, January 1, 2010 at his residence.


Mr. Austin was the son of D.B. and Mollie Waters Austin of Yorkville, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Georgie Austin and his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Lois Hulsey Austin. Mr. Austin was a decorated World War II veteran serving in major campaigns in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Mr. Austin was a member and past commander of Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion. He retired from the Life Insurance Company of Georgia and owned and operated a family restaurant for many years in Rockmart. He was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.


Mr. Austin is survived by a sister, Hattie Lou Austin, Cedartown; a son, Kirby Austin and his wife Cheryl of Madison, AL and a daughter, Lynn Miller and her husband Steve of Rockmart. Mr. Austin has four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.


Let it be said of him, When the trumpeter sounded the alarm, He answered the call, He met the enemy, He blooded the foe, Freedom is preserved.


Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Tony Weaver officiating and his son, Mr. Kirby Austin delivering a eulogy. Interment will follow in the Yorkville Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.


The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Salvation Army or the American Heart Association in memory of Mr. Austin.
