John Glen

Mr. John Randolph Glen, age 69, of Cedartown passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012 at his home.


John Randolph Glen was born on August 23, 1943 in Toccoa, GA a son of Jim and Lena Naglich Glen of Sautee-Nacoochee, GA. He attended school in Sautee-Nacoochee, GA in his early years and graduated from White County High School in Cleveland, GA. He later graduated from Brenau College, Gainesville, GA with a B.S. degree in criminal justice. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Sautee-Nacoochee, GA and as a teenager served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Annie Virginia Glen.


In service to his country he was in the Army and enlisted at Fort Gordon, GA. He was a member of the 1st. M.P. Company, 1st. Infantry Division Big Red 1. He trained at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He served in Viet Nam in 1965. Years later he attended 1st. Military Police Company Reunions at various U.S. locations.


He served as an officer with the Georgia State Patrol for thirty four years and retired with the rank of Sargeant. Later he served as Chief of Police for Temple,. GA.


He was a member of Caledonia Lodge # 121 F. & A.M., Cedartown and Brewster Cleveland Post 86, Cedartown where he had served as Post Commander and financial officer. A patriotic veteran, he always believed in proudly flying his flag.


He was married to Jean N. Glen of Cleveland, GA for forty years. The couple had two sons, John Casey Glen and Gregory John Glen and wife Alicia of Rockmart and Cedartown; six grandchildren: Caroline Marie Glen, Atticus John Glen, Fairleigh Hart Glen, John Tannin Glen, Abigail (Abbie) Glen and Anthony John (A.J.) Glen; nephew, Doug Glen; nieces, Julia Glen and Jane Glen Gotherman.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Anna Kresge United Methodist Church, 15 Booger Hollow Road Cedartown, GA with Rev. Rebecca Holmes officiating.


The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at the church.


The Honor Guard of the Georgia State Patrol will serve as pallbearers.


In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Anna Kresge United Methodist Church General Fund.


The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
