John (J.R.) Cole, Jr.

Mr. John Radford (J.R.) Cole, Jr., age 88, of Aragon, GA passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011 following several months of declining health.

He was born in Rockmart, GA on July 19, 1923 a son of the late John Radford Cole, Sr. and Nadine Lane Cole. Mr. Cole had lived in Polk County all of his life where he was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in World War II. Mr. Cole was a member of William G. England Lodge # 747 F. & A.M. and was a retired employee of the Goodyear Mill of Rockmart. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Eunice Fuqua Cole on April 24, 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Kirk of Aragon to whom he was married on March 11, 2004; one brother, Ray Cole, Huntsville, AL; two nieces, Vicky Anne Cole Orr, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Susan Leigh Cole Cantrell, Huntsville, AL; two step children, Allyson Kirk, Rockmart and Timothy Kirk, Baton Rouge, LA; several step grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Owen Davis and Rev. Cordell Tibbetts officiating. Interment will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 12 noon until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. John Radford (JR.) Cole, Jr.
