Juanita Leatherwood

Mrs. Juanita Leatherwood, age 88, of Rockmart passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 in a Rome medical center following a brief illness.

She was born December 16, 1926 in Paulding County a daughter of the late Ben Nolen and Annie Mae Shellnut Nolen. Mrs. Leatherwood had been a resident of Polk County since 1948 and had attended Holly Springs Baptist Church. She worked for the Goodyear Mill for five years before beginning her employment with the Arrow Shirt Factory in Buchanan which lasted for 34 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rayford Leatherwood on November 15, 2009; by her son, Bengie Leatherwood on April 18, 2015 and by nine brothers and sisters: Howard Nolen, Bunyon Nolen, Tommy Nolen, James Nolen, Lucretia Shelley, Lillian Smith, Edna Hitchcock, Pauline Smith and Margaret Worthy.

Survivors include her two grandchildren: Nicole Leatherwood Buckner, Rome and Perren Leatherwood, Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Rockmart Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will include: Johnny Finley. Dwayne Canupp, Matt Bailey, Riley Miller, Ricky Jefferson, Tony Mewborn and Keith Puckett. Honorary pallbearers will include: J.L. Jefferson and Logan Miller.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. Juanita Leatherwood.
