Kate Shepard Watts

Mrs. Kate Shepard Watts, age 89, of Rockmart passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at her residence.

She was born in Paulding County, GA on September 15, 1926 a daughter of the late James Alfred Shepard and Vida Tant Shepard. Mrs. Watts had been a resident of Rockmart for the past 65 years and was a member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of the Goodyear Mill and later worked for Big Lots for over ten years. Mrs. Watts enjoyed reading her Bible and having phone conversations with her family. She also collected dolls and enjoyed traveling.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Rev. Fred Junior Watts in 2006; by a son, Douglas Roy Watts; by brothers: Ivey, Walter, Doyal, Amos and Alfred Shepard and by sisters: Mary Dunn, Mattie Lee, Mae Akins and Stella Holland.

Survivors include a son, James Charles Watts, Rockmart; daughter, Laura Watts Waddell and husband Daryle, Rockmart; nine grandchildren: Stacie Bello, Tampa, FL, Jason Watts, Holliday, FL, Richard Watts, Cartersville, Charlie Tucker, Rockmart, Gretchen Swales, Woodstock, Brigitta Watts, Woodstock, Katrina (Kat) Watts, Canton, Shane Waddell, Douglasville and James Waddell, Villa Rica; fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece, Marilyn Edwards, Rockmart.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Hoyt Lewis, Brian Lewis, Levi Wyatt and Clifton Brown officiating. A eulogy will be given by her daughter, Laura Waddell. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with Bro.Randy Smith officiating.

Pallbearers will include: Charlie Tucker, Shane Waddell, James Waddell, Junior Bollen, Jimmy Priest and Clifford Shepard. Tina Williams, Larry Dunn, Jerry Dunn and Daryle Waddell will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 9 pm at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
