M.L. Long

Mr. M.L. Long, age 89, of Rockmart, GA passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at his residence.

He was born in Fyffe, Alabama on July 4, 1924 a son of the late Sidney Long and Mamie Webb Long. He had lived in Rockmart the greater part of his life and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Long had a love for Gospel music and enjoyed listening to George Strait and Elvis Presley. One of his hobbies was buying and trading cars. He was a longtime employee of the Polk School District. Mr. Long was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Winkles and by three brothers: Curtis, Buford and Ralph.

Survivors include his wife of sixty eight years, Alma Cope Long of Rockmart; daughter, Charlene Bullard, Rockmart; three sons: Jackie Cope and wife Betty Jean, Rockmart, Jerry Wayne Long, Sr., Rockmart and Andy Long and wife Michelle, Calhoun; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Brown and Rev. Bobby McDowell officiating. Danny Goddard will deliver a eulogy. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include: Jeremy Cope, Justin Bullard, Jerry Long, Jr., Cody Long, Gene Long, and Matt Pope. Honorary pallbearers will include: Lamar Cope, Josh Long, Mark Long and Johnathan Davidson.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. M.L. Long.
