Melvin Allen Scott, Sr.

Mr. Melvin Allen Scott, Sr., age 81, of Taylorsville, GA passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, April 19, 2019.

Mr. Scott was born in Taylorsville, GA on October 5, 1937 a son of the late Archie Renay Scott and the late Annie Maxwell Scott. He was a lifelong resident of Taylorsville and was a member of the Taylorsville Baptist Church. Mr. Scott was a retired employee of the Union Carbide Company and he also farmed for many years. He loved the outdoors, working with cattle, planting cotton and cutting hay. The greatest pleasure of his life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry D. Scott on April 19, 2018 and by a brother in law, Glynn Robinson.

Survivors include his wife of over 59 years, Betty Sue Cantrell Scott, Taylorsville; his four children: Allen (Sherry) Scott, Jenny (T.R.) Lott, Becky (Darren) Wright all of Taylorsville and Archie (Kelly) Scott, Rockmart; sister, Jo Robinson and sister in law Rose Scott both of Taylorsville; sixteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.

Graveside funeral and interment services will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 6:30 pm in the Hills Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Daniel Arrington officiating.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Charlie Cox and Ronnie Sutton will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
