Melvin Colie Chupp

Mr. Melvin Colie Chupp, age 93, formerly of Dewberry Lane, Lindale, GA passed away Saturday, September 12, 2009 in a Rome Medical Center.


He was born in Anniston, Alabama on September 4, 1916 a son of the late Benjamin Lafayette Chupp and Maggie Martin Chupp. Mr. Chupp lived his early years in Haralson County, GA before moving to Rockmart where he and his family lived for 12 years. While living in Rockmart, Mr. Chupp worked in Atlanta, GA with Randall Brothers Company as a millwright. In 1966 the family moved to Cedartown and in 1987 to Lindale. Mr. Chupp was an avid gardener and a member of the Church of Christ.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Garner Chupp on January 12, 2002 to whom he was married on January 23, 1944. Mr. Chupp was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.


Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Faye Pollard and husband Keith, Bremen, Mrs. Janice Corwin and husband Ted, Kingston and Mrs. JoAnn Helton and husband David, Aragon; two sons: Mr. Larry Chupp and wife Brenda, Aragon and Mr. William L. Chupp and wife Lynette, Monroe;
one sister, Mrs. Mary Scroggs, Rockmart; 12 grandchildren and 11great grandchildren also survive.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Ministers Alvis Miller and Joey Haynes officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.


Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.


The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. At other hours the family may be contacted at the residence of Ted and Janice Corwin, 30 Rivercreek Crossing, Kingston.


The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
