Rev. Charles Garrett

January 14, 1942 — April 17, 2022

Rev. Charles Griffin Garrett, age 80, a lifelong resident of Rockmart GA, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday morning, April 17, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Rev. Garrett was born on January 14, 1942, in Rockmart, GA to the late Rev. Lawrence G. Garrett and Vivian Lipham Garrett. He was a 1960 graduate of Rockmart High School. Early in his career, he worked for General Electric in Rome while attending Shorter College and later was a carpenter and homebuilder with Lawrence G. Garrett and Sons. In the 1970’s, he, and his siblings along with his father’s influence opened Buy-Low Home Decorating Center and Building Supply. He also prepared taxes for family, friends, and neighbors for over 50 years.

Rev. Garrett was a past member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and in 1974, he was called into the ministry and began his pastorship at Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church for the following 47 years. He broadcasted sermons on the radio through Revival Fire on WZOT in Rockmart for 30 years. In 1998 with support of the church, he began a television ministry that reached several counties. Bro. Charles had a heart for seeing the lost come to know Jesus as their Savior and the Lord used him and his ministry to personally baptize 968 people. With the help of many past and present members, he led a campaign to place the Georgia state motto of “In God We Trust” in every school system in the state. He was also instrumental in getting a bill passed through the Georgia Legislature giving Georgians the privilege of choosing to place “In God We Trust” on their car tags.

In 1960, Charles married the love of his life, Glenda Roberson Garrett on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th because that was his only day off. Charles and Glenda’s greatest joy was spending time with their family and enjoyed traveling, shopping, and eating out. He loved watching the Braves and watching the Dawgs and Yellow Jackets.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Garrett was preceded in death by his loving sister-in-law, Faye Garrett.
