Rev. Lawrence Griffin Garrett

Lawrence Griffin Garrett, age 91, of 217 Clarkwood Road Rockmart, GA passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 in his residence. Mr. Garrett was born in Rockmart, GA on December 29, 1920 a son of the late Sidney and Margie Haynie Garrett. He resided in Polk County his entire life.

He served as pastor of eleven churches since 1945. He was co-owner of Buy Low Building Supply, Rockmart, GA. He was a member of the Morning View Baptist Church of which he was Pastor Emeritus.

Mr. Garrett was married 67 years to the late Vivian Lipham Garrett. Surviving are two sons, Charles (Glenda) Garrett, Johnny (Faye) Garrett, two daughters, Martha (Max) Barber and Joyce (Tommy) Cooper all of Rockmart. Eight grandchildren, Michael (Marty) Garrett, Mark (Donna) Garrett, Michelle (Keith) Pruitt, Timothy (Tammy) Garrett, Tammy (Lee) Forsyth, Matthew (Jessica) Garrett, Amy (Jason) Chappell, Christopher Cooper. Great grandchildren, Zachary (Karyl) Garrett, Casey (Brittany) Garrett, Amanda Pruitt, Elyse (Joey) Beck, Sarah Garrett, Kristen Pruitt, Griffin Garrett, Brady Garrett, Morgan Pruitt, Beaux Chappell, Madison Pruitt, Emily Forsyth, Emerson Forsyth, Maggie Garrett, Gant Garrett. Two great great grandchildren, Arabella Garrett and Porter Garrett all of Rockmart.

Rev, Garrett began his ministry for the Lord at age 24 at the New Prospect Baptist Church. In September of 1945 he was ordained into the ministry and was stead-fast for 67 years. He had the honor to pastor these churches: Mount Tabor Baptist (Taylorsville), New Prospect Baptist (Rockmart), Friendship Baptist (Cedartown), Wax Baptist (Rome), Morning View Baptist (Rockmart), Bethel Crossroads Baptist (Taylorsville), Bellview Baptist (Rockmart), Lees Chapel Baptist (Cedartown), Unity Baptist (Rome), Pleasant Hill (Rockmart), Liberty View Baptist (Rome). He shared the good news of Jesus Christ on radio stations in Georgia and Tennessee with the Shut-In Hour.

The funeral service will be held Monday, July 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Morning View Baptist Church sanctuary with Bro. Bill Cantrell, Rev. Royce Campbell, Rev. Jeff Hulsey and Rev. Charles Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearersand include: Michael Garrett, Mark Garrett, Timothy Garrett, Matthew Garrett, Christopher Cooper, Keith Pruitt, Lee Forsyth and Jason Chappell. Honorary pallbearers will include: Earlene Cole, Barbara Bennett, David Jackson, Nolan Dabbs, John Cook, Ricky Hulsey, Charles Waters, Rufus Cantrell, Donald Lester, Billy Fincher, Ricky Sorrells, Glenn Sorrells, Elmer Roberson, Frank Folsom and all Pastors and Preachers.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home of Rockmart is in charge of arrangements.
