Shirley L. (Slim) Dawkins

Mr. Shirley L. (Slim) Dawkins, age 77, of Rockmart, GA passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at his residence.

He was born on January 24, 1944 in Elba, Alabama a son of the late John Wiley Dawkins and the late Julia Pearl Duffell Dawkins. Mr. Dawkins had been a resident of Rockmart since 1983. He was a member of the Rockmart First Baptist Church. Mr. Dawkins was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Vietnam War. He was a former Little League Manager and a former Youth Football Coach. Mr. Dawkins was also an avid Alabama Football fan.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, William A. Dawkins.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Dawkins to whom he was married on May 22, 1968; son, John Dawkins and wife Kathy; daughter, Shirley Thomas; two grandchildren: William S. (Sam) Dawkins and wife Sarah and Zachary J. Dawkins and wife Katie; two sisters: Judy Nelson and Debbie Johnson; and a great granddaughter, Mya Koomans.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 19, 2021 at 5:00 pm in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with eulogies given by his son and daughter.

The family will receive friends Friday from 3:00 pm until the service hour at the funeral home.
