Vernon Paul Waddell, Sr.

Mr. Vernon Paul Waddell, Sr., age 78, of 419 Flint Hill Road, Aragon, GA passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008 following a two year illness.


He was born in Polk County, GA on July 29, 1930 a son of the late James Waddell and Jessie Edwards Waddell. Mr. Waddell was of the Baptist faith and had lived all of his life in Polk County. He was a retired auto Machinist and owned and operated Import Engines of Aragon. Mr. Waddell was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving from 1948 to 1950. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Roshanda Waddell, son, Ronnie Waddell, grandson, Daniel Waddell and by two brothers Gene Waddell and Hershell Waddell.


Survivors include his wife, Betty Waddell, Aragon; five daughters: Tammy Brown, Cedartown, Marie Cole, Rockmart, Sunday Rampley, Cave Spring, Lisa Tibbetts, Rockmart and Paula Waddell, Rome; five sons: Vernon Waddell, Jr., Aragon, Timmy Waddell, Aragon, Shane Waddell, Rome, Jeffery Waddell, Rockmart and Brandon Waddell, Rockmart; two brothers: Pete Waddell, Cedartown and Scott Waddell, Cartersville; three sisters: Doris Teems, Aragon, Nellie Dover, Taylorsville and Martha Waddell, Aragon; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren also survive.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Boatner and Brother Tim Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the Aragon Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.

Pallbearers will include: Blake Brock, Jonas Waddell, Justin Brown, Ronnie Waddell, Brandon Waddell and Hershell Waddell.


The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
