William L. Paschal

Mr. William L. Paschal, age 88, of Rockmart, GA passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019 at his residence.

He was born in Dallas, GA on August 16, 1930, a son of the late Emmett Eugene Paschal and the late Mary Pauline Garner Paschal. He loved his family and friends and was a devoted member of the Antioch Baptist Church for many years.

Mr. Paschal was a well known citizen of Rockmart having been a teacher and principal with the Polk School District for 44 years. He was the public address announcer for Rockmart High School football games for 54 years. Mr. Paschal was a loving and giving individual willing to fix anything from a leaky faucet, fixing a flat tire or making an engine repair.

He was also known as the pilot of his little yellow Piper J-3. In addition to holding a pilot license he held an inspector license so that he could do mechanical inspections to make sure that local airplanes were airworthy. He enjoyed spending time on the weekends at the local airport with his pilot friends sharing stories about their flying experiences.

Mr. Paschal was known to his students as the Flying Principal. At the end of every school year he would bus the students to the airport or the industrial park and put on an air show, then land the plane and let the students look at the plane and ask questions. He would often have former students share their memories with him of these events.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Geraldine Argo Paschal; four brothers: Emmett Eugene Paschal, Jr., Harvey Paschal, Jerry Paschal and Glenn Paschal; three sisters: Virginia Kuehner, Catherine Otts and Beverly Branton.

Survivors include his daughter, Sheila Paschal and her husband Joel Smith, Rockmart; two grandsons: Chris Cole and his wife Amy and Chad Cole and his wife Tiffany; five great grandchildren: Josh Cole, Sara Bell Kisor, Chayton Emmett - Cole, Hope Lily Grace Cole and Payton Worthy; one great great grandchild, Zayne Sherfield; sister Emmalene Paschal Puryear, Mechanicsville, VA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 25, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Dabbs and Rev. Jonathan Blackmon officiating and eulogies given by family and friends. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with American Legion Brown-Wright Post #12 Honor Guard in charge of military graveside rites.

Pallbearers will include: Stan Otts, Scott Ferguson, Berry Williams, John Paschal, Matt Paschal and Lee Paschal.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, April 24, 2019 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church, 3923 Antioch Road, Cedartown, GA 30125 in memory of Mr. Paschal.
