Alton F. Forrister

September 29, 1927 — June 24, 2013

Mr. Alton F. Forrister, age 85, of Rockmart, GA passed away Monday, June 24, 2013 at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Cleburne County, Alabama a son of the late Edward B. Forrister and Bessie Puckett Forrister. Mr. Forrister had lived the greater part of his life in Polk County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World WarII and was a member of Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion. Mr. Forrister was a member of the Rockmart Church of Christ and had served as both a Deacon and Elder. He had served as a Boy Scout leader in the Fish Creek community , coached youth football and was a former member of the Lions Club. Prior to ill heath he was a partner in Forrister and Forrister Construction Company, developers of both commercial and residential housing units.

Mr. Forrister was preceded in death by a son, Mark B. Forrister in 1997; by two brothers, Ollie Forrister and Arlin Forrister; and by two sisters: Myrtle Wheeler and Jewell Harmon.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Witt Forrister to whom he was married on April 17, 1948; two daughters: Deborah McClure and her husband, Jim of Taylorsville and Donna Jones, Aiken, S.C.; a son, Scott Forrister and his wife Nolie of Rockmart; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; a brother, Orville C. Forrister, Cedartown; two sisters: Ailene Glenn, Cedartown and Mable Wells, Cedartown; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside funeral and interment services will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in Polk Memory Gardens with Minister Craig Hallman officiating and Brown-Wright Post # 12 in charge of military rites.

Pallbearers will include: Casey Forrister, Tim Morris, Christopher McClure, Daniel Dennett, Kyle Forrister, Jim McClure and Robert Goodahl.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the widows assistance fund of the Rockmart Church of Christ in memory of Mr. Forrister.

The Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
