Betty Wilson Matthews

Betty Wilson Mathews, age 88, of Stockbridge, Georgia, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sunday, June 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 20 in Rockmart, Georgia, Betty was the daughter of the late Tom and Rushie Wilson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Zack Mathews, and her nine siblings.

Betty enjoyed a fulfilling accounting career, retiring from both International Harvester and Bank of America. A devoted Christian, she lived her faith daily through quiet service and compassionate care. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Stockbridge and a former member at Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Jefferson Ave Baptist Church in East Point. Betty found joy in every opportunity to serve—whether greeting visitors, managing the church’s clothes closet, cleaning the floors, visiting shut-ins, or lending a hand wherever needed. Nothing was too big or too small for her servant’s heart.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Melissa (Clem) Patrick of Jonesboro, Ken McMillian of Atlanta, Martha McMillian of Hapeville, Steve (Robin) Mathews of Stockbridge, and Stewart (Tammie) Mathews of Orlando, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Leigh (Matt) Morgan of Tyrone, Brian (Faith) Mathews of Conyers, Meredith (Jake) Ratcliff of St. Cloud, Florida, Caitlin Boggs of Williamson, and Zachary Mathews of Orlando; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, June 11, at Ford-Stewart Funeral Home, 2047 Hwy 138 SE, Jonesboro, GA 30236, with Rev. Steve Murrell officiating. Visitation will precede the service, beginning at 1:00 PM.

Interment will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 12, at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta where Betty will be laid to rest.
