Mrs. Betty Sue McDowell, age 85, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born in Rockmart, GA, on May 21, 1941, daughter of the late James Ray Ferguson and the late Ruth Ann Hammett Ferguson. A graduate of Taylorsville High School, Betty was a woman whose warm heart and joyful spirit left a lasting impression. She was a member of the West Rome Church of God and carried her kindness and compassion into every part of her life.

Betty dedicated 45 years to working in retail service, where her friendly smile, cheerful personality, and gift for conversation made her beloved by both coworkers and customers alike. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, like spending time at the lake, relaxing at the beach, and unwinding with her favorite game shows on television. Her sweet spirit and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by 13 siblings; and her two grandchildren, Terri Leanne Thrower, and Alec Patrick Thrower.

She is survived by her daughters, Stacie Ann Fleenor (Loren David Fleenor), Suzette Thrower (Mickey Jay Thrower), and Marlene Holcombe (Alan Gerald Holcombe); brother, Carl Ferguson.  Thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. McDowell will be held Friday, May 22, 2026, at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Shepard officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Betty's family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 11:00 am until the service hour.

Pallbearers will include Luke Fleenor, Matthew Fleenor, Brett Thrower, Mick Thrower, Loren Fleenor, Alan Holcombe, Gabriel Haney, and Liam Haney.
