Mrs. Beverly Cook Smith, age 74, of Rome, GA, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 5, 2025, at her residence.
Mrs. Smith was born on October 26, 1950, in Chamblee, GA, the daughter of the late Howard C. “Buddy” Staton and Betty Sue Aycock Staton. She spent the majority of her life in Rome, GA, where she was a devoted member of the Oak Hill Church of Christ.
A dedicated businesswoman, Mrs. Smith owned and operated the Hall of Fame Trophy Shop in Rome for many years. After retiring from the shop, she continued to serve her community through her work with the Floyd County Board of Education.
Mrs. Smith was a passionate Georgia Tech fan and enjoyed traveling, reading, and baseball. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She was also a devoted dog lover whose warmth and kindness will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her first husband, Danny Cook, two brothers, Tim Staton and Bill Staton, and a son-in-law, Travis Cagle.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Don Smith, whom she married in October of 2005; children, Shannon Cagle, Jonathan (Dana) Cook, Steve (Kim) Smith, and Kim (David) Brookshire; nine grandchildren, Lee Cagle, Beth (Max) Post, Zachary Cook, Morgan (Nick) Kraut, Jamison Smith, Jeremy (Breanna) Smith, Joel Brookshire, Megan Brookshire, and Ali Kilgo. A brother, Carly Staton, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Thursday afternoon, July 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Oak Hill Church of Christ, Rome, with David Newby, Marvin Seritt, and Lonnie Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens
Mrs. Smith’s family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
Pallbearers will include Max Post, Zachary Cook, Brian Staton, Nick Kraut, Steve Smith and Jack Staton. Lee Cagle will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Northwest Georgia Center for Independent Living, 527 Broad Street, Suite 101, Rome, GA 30161 or PAWS, 99 North Ave., NE, Rome, GA 30161 in memory of Mrs. Smith.
