Bobby Joe Atkins

April 4, 1942 — September 30, 2025

Mr. Bobby Joe Atkins, age 83, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Born on April 4, 1942, in Rockmart, GA, Bobby was the son of the late Jack Atkins and Kate “Katie Bell” Waddle Atkins.

Bobby spent the greater part of his life in the Yorkville community where he was known as an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, and Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed fishing, farming, bird and rabbit hunting with his dog, and relaxing on the porch, keeping a watchful eye on his surroundings, often considering himself unofficial personal home security. He served his local community for 14 years as a volunteer firefighter and was instrumental in founding the Yorkville Fire Station. Professionally, he worked in manufacturing and retired from Premier Metal after many years of dedicated service. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bobby especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. A man of faith, Bobby was raised attending New Prospect Baptist Church and later attended Crossroads Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by his brothers, Roger Atkins, Cecil Atkins, and Euzell Atkins; sisters, Barbara Sorrells Bennett, Hazel York, Ernestine Bowman Gray; and step-son, Stephen King.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Sybil Atkins; daughters, Lisa (Randy) Thomas and Sabrina (Raymond) Powell; step-children, Tammy Johnson and Tommy (Dana) King; step-daughter in law, Tricia King; 7 grandchildren, Makayla (Kamry) Green, Jessica Graham, Rebecca (Frannie) Lopez, Craig Graham, Tiffany (Randy) Hebert, Kyle King, and Erin Rogers; 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-greatgrandchildren; a brother, Jesse (Peggy) Atkins; a sister, Linda Braselton, and a number or nieces and nephews also survive.
