Charles Edward "Charlie" Ballew

Mr. Charles Edward “Charlie” Ballew, age 87, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Monday morning, April 22, 2024, at his residence.

Charlie was born in McCaysville, GA, on March 22, 1937, a son of the late R.F. Ballew and Helen King Ballew.  He had lived his childhood and young adult life in McCaysville and moved to Rockmart in July of 1998. Charlie retired from Atlanta Gas Light Company where he had worked in the parts department.  He loved old cars, was an avid NASCAR fan and loved to ride his lawnmower.  Charlie was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by a brother, R.K. “Bud” Ballew, and a sister, Mary Hedburg.

Charlie is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Mary Linda Mahan Ballew, whom he married July 16, 1965; two sons, Steven Ballew, and Jason (Renee) Ballew; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother, Tom (Suzanne) Ballew; two sisters, Betty Sarrell, and Martha (Ken) Luck.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In keeping with his wishes, Charlie will be cremated, and a memorial service will be planned at a later date.
