Mr. Donald Joseph Wright, Jr. age 79, of Cartersville, GA, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026, at his residence.
Donald was born in Toledo, Ohio, on February 18, 1947, son of the late Donald Joseph Wright, Sr. and Margaret “Peggy” Thomas Wright. He spent his childhood and early adult years in Ohio. He was a graduate of The University of Toledo, earning a dual degree in Geology and Chemistry.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Donald served his country during the Vietnam War and was of the Catholic faith. He had a wide range of interests and talents, including working with computers, photography, scuba diving, ceramics, playing the guitar, oil painting, and writing books. He was also a collector of fine wines and firearms.
He began his career in the jewelry industry managing stores for Zales and Osterman’s. Later he moved into merchandising with Kay Jewelers, Alexandria, VA, Reed Jewelers, Wilmington, NC, and Friedman’s Jewelers, Savannah, GA which allowed him to travel the world. In his later years he did appraisal work for insurance companies. He made his home in Savannah, GA where he lived for 30 years before moving to Cartersville to be closer to his family. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and held a special love for his pets.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Judy Lynn Wright, whom he married October 1, 1983; three children, Donald John Wright (Kim), Heather Nicole Hughes (Brian), and Sara Farriba (Cliff); seven grandchildren, Ethan Hughes, Connor Hughes, Hannah Hughes, Kendall Wright, Brynn Wright, Isla Farriba, and Maisie Farriba; sister, Donna Jean Skiver (Bob), niece, Mindy Jaques; nephew, Ryan Skiver.
Graveside memorial services for Donald will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 12:30 p.m., at Georgia National Cemetery with Chaplain David Ellis officiating and military rites will be provided by the Army Honor Guard.
