Elder Charles Everett Sutton, Sr.

Elder Charles Everett Sutton, Sr., age 87, of Taylorsville, GA passed away Sunday, December 21, 2025.

Charles was born in Taylorsville on January 19, 1938, to the late Richard A. Sutton and Lois Macbee Sutton. He lived the greater part of his life in Taylorsville, where he dedicated himself to serving the church and the people he loved.

Charles was a faithful member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church from 1966. He was ordained as a deacon in 1975, licensed to preach in 1980, and ordained as a minister in 1981. He devoted his life to the congregations he pastored, serving Friendship Baptist Church in Haralson County for over 20 years, as well as Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Aragon and Shady Grove Baptist Church in Dallas.

In addition to his ministry, Charles was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country, and he later retired from the Bartow County Public Works Department. He enjoyed working in his yard, watching Atlanta Braves baseball, and cheering on the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

Above all else, Charles’s greatest loves were his church, his family, and reading his Bible.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years and the mother of his children, Ila Cash Sutton; his second wife, Christine Cape Sutton; daughter, Cindy Richardson; grandsons, Cody Sutton and Casey Johnson; sisters, Grace L. Sutton, Edna Gentry, and Doris Powell; and brothers, Herbert Sutton and Alvin Sutton.

Charles is survived by his son, Everette Sutton and his wife, Gina; sisters, Wilma Cornwell and Carol Brown; brother, Donnie Sutton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Sutton will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Elder Colt Deems and Elder Tim Deems officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Chris Edwards, Chris Hindmon, Olin Streetman, Caleb Cason, Jacob Griffith, and Labron Cason. Honorary pallbearers will include Travis Causey and Ricky Deems.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, December 22, 2025 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
