Gene Clark

Mr. Gene Clark, age 77, of 1870 Cedartown Highway Rockmart, GA passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 at his residence following a lengthy illness.


He was born on May 2, 1931 in Polk County, GA a son of the late Harvey Clark and Bessie Elrod Clark. Mr. Clark had lived all of his life in Rockmart. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Mr. Clark worked for several years as a mechanic for Marietta Dodge before purchasing High Point Grocery which he and his wife owned and operated for 30 years. He was also employed by the Polk School District as a bus driver for over 31 years. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by a brother, Joel Clark.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Clara Ann Sorrells Clark of Rockmart to whom he was married on May 29, 1958; one daughter, Mrs. Colleen White, Rockmart; four grandchildren: Brett Johnson, Evan Johnson, Cortney White and T.J. White; one great grandchild, Sulli Johnson; two brothers: Mr. Billy Clark and Mr. Troy Clark both of Rockmart; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Hulsey officiating. Interment will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.


Active pallbearers will include: Mike Clark, Alan Clark, Shane Roberts, Bryan Roberts, Keith Roberts and T.J. White. Honorary pallbearers will include: Burl Waddell, Earl Smith, Danny Dunn, Alford Potts, Mack Sullivan and Jim Mooney.


The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
