George Andrew
Hembree
Aug 15, 1947 — Sep 12, 2026
Mr. George Andrew Hembree, age 79, of Cartersville, GA and formerly of Taylorsville passed away Saturday morning, September 12, 2026.
Mr. Hembree was born in Taylorsville, GA, on August 15, 1947, a son of the late Clarence Hembree and Mae Gentry Hembree. George grew up in Taylorsville and was a 1965 graduate of Taylorsville High School. Following high school, George proudly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam War as a member of the Army Artillery. George later began a long and dedicated career with Shaw Industries, where he retired after more than 45 years of faithful service. Above all else, George treasured his family. One of nine children, he grew up alongside his brothers and sisters, working together in the cotton fields and learning the value of hard work, family, and perseverance. Those values remained an important part of who George was throughout his life. George enjoyed the simple things that brought him happiness. He had a special talent for restoring antique Chevrolet Impalas and took great pride in bringing these classic cars back to life. He also enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and building birdhouses. Some of his favorite moments were spent simply sitting back and relaxing in his hammock. George was a man who appreciated his family, his work, his hobbies, and the quiet moments of life. He was of the Baptist faith and will be remembered for the life he lived, the work he accomplished, and the love he shared with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ann Hembree; and his brothers, Wayne Hembree and David Hembree.
George is survived by his wife, Jackie Hembree, to whom he married on March 17, 2003; daughter, Leah McCarty (Kenneth); step-sons, Corey McCafferty, Kevin McCafferty, Trever Champney, and Aaron Champney; granddaughters, Caroline McCarty, Abigail McCarty, and Isabel McCafferty; special person, Emmee Hazelwood; sisters, Rosetta Hindmon and Catherine Wigley (Charles); brothers, James Hembree (Brenda), Johnny Hembree (Jeannie), Edward Hembree, and Clarence Hembree (Angie); numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Interment will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post #12 American Legion Honor Guard in charge of military graveside rites.
