Hansel Eugene (Peewee) Waits

Mr. Hansel Eugene (PeeWee) Waits, age 76, of Wheeler Road Rockmart, GA passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011 in a Rome Medical Center following a lengthy illness.


He was born in Bartow County, GA on November 17, 1934 a son of Buford Lee Waits and Effie Mae Waits. Mr. Waits had lived the greater part of his life in Polk County where he was a member of the VanWert Baptist Church. He was a former employee of the City of Rockmart Public Works Department followed by thirty years of service with the Polk County Solid Waste Department working as a heavy equipment operator. Mr. Waits enjoyed farming, fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; by a sister, Shirley Faye Garner Hannah and by three step brothers: Harold Waits, Terry Waits and Ralph Waits.


Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann Waters Waits to whom he was married on September 27, 1954; two sons: Randy Waits and wife Shawn, Stevie Waits and wife Angie ; one daughter, Cindy Woodward and husband Doyal Wayne all of Rockmart; brother, J.R. Waits, Cedartown; two sisters: Mary Jo Spencer and Virginia Alsbrook both of Aragon; Step brother, Mark Waits, Dallas; four grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one great granddaughter.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Fennell and Rev. Hoyt Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with a prayer by Rev. Eddy Hughes.


Active pallbearers will include: Revis Waits, Tony Waits, Bubba Hulsey, Tim Waits, Scotty Alsbrook, Brad Barber, Larry Campbell and Adam Cox. Honorary pallbearers will include: James Waits, Wendell Waits, Charles Hilliard and members of the Bojangles Breakfast Club.


The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
