Obituary

Mrs. Helen L. Smith, age 86, of Rockmart, GA (the Yorkville Community), passed away Thursday evening, July 2, 2026.

Helen was born on December 15, 1939, in Kickapoo Township, Peoria, Illinois, to the late Vincent V. Schaub and Thelma Mae Betts Schaub.

A faithful member of Yorkville Baptist Church since 1974, Helen deeply loved her church and church family. Throughout the years, she served in many ministries with a willing heart. She taught Sunday School from 1974 until 2015, faithfully worked in the Sunday School bus ministry, and eagerly accepted any opportunity to serve wherever she was needed.

Helen was employed by the Paulding County Board of Education for 23 years as a paraprofessional. She devoted her career to caring for and encouraging children, reflecting the compassion and kindness that defined her life.

Helen dearly loved her beautiful family and had a special place in her heart for animals, rescuing many throughout her lifetime. She was always willing to help those in need and touched countless lives through her generosity and selfless spirit. Above all, Helen loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her unwavering faith was the foundation of her life.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Smitty Smith; brother, Jim; and sisters, Frances and Carol.

Helen is survived he her son, Bobby Smith (Stephanie); step-children, Larry Smith (Laura), Annette Weaver (Chuck); and Jeanette Victor; grandchildren, Kyla, Kirsten, Kerri, Kaden, Ellie, Brooke, and Caleb; great-grandchildren, Brennen, Brylen, and Emma; several step-grandchildren and step-greatgrandchildren; brothers, Tom Schaub (Ursula), Vince Schaub, and Steve Schaub; sisters, Betty Adkinson and Kathy Orten; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Helen will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Micah Williams and Pastor Todd Brown officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the service hour at the funeral home.
