Jackie Ray "Jack" Slaton

Mr. Jackie Ray “Jack” Slaton, age 89, of Rockmart, GA passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025.

Jack was born on February 18, 1936, in Albertville, AL, a son of the late William “Willie” Franklin Slaton and Ella Roberts Slaton. He was dedicated truck driver for over fifty-three years, and Jack retired from Old Dominion Freight Line. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for nine years, including service during the Korean War as a firefighter. Jack had a deep love for the outdoors—fishing and camping were among his favorite pastimes, especially at Lake Guntersville. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and was a devoted Alabama Crimson Tide football fan.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Dalrymple Slaton on March 18, 2011; sons, Woody Pointer and Britt Slaton; seven siblings, Billy Slaton, Bruce Slaton, Buck Slaton, Fannie Staton, Sue Bean, Corine Knapp, and Bertha “Boots” Cox.

Jack is survived by three daughters, Flo (Danny) Dunn, Jacqueline (Corey) McDowell, and Freida (Steve) Roberts; sons, Bennie (Sheron) Pointer, and Keith (Myra) Pointer; twelve grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Memorial services for Mr. Slaton will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11:30 am in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Brother Melton Moss officiating. Inurnment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with Brown-Wright Post #12 American Legion Honor Guard in charge of military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 am until the memorial hour at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Victory Baptist Church Food Pantry in memory of Mr. Slaton.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Janice Bagley and Affinis Hospice for the care and compassion given to Jack and the family.
