Mr. James William “J.W.” Arp, age 91, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Monday evening, March 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Mr. Arp was born in Taylorsville, GA on August 16, 1934, a son of the late George William Arp and Florine Christine Goss Arp. He had lived the greater part of his life in Rockmart and was of the Baptist faith. J.W. retired from Lockheed after more than 30 years of service as a mechanic.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved spending time fishing and hunting. J.W. also enjoyed collecting knives and attending auctions. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Arp was preceded in death by four brothers, Lonnie Arp, Marvin Arp, Claude Arp, and Billy Arp, and a daughter-in-law, Jerri Arp.
J.W. is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Sylvia Ann Weaver Arp, whom he married December 16, 1954; children, Katherine Ward, Randy Arp, Darlene Donaldson (David), Terry Arp (Toni), and Stacey Cohran (Ronnie). Ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Arp will be held on Saturday afternoon, March 14, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Brother Clay Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Taylorsville Cemetery.
J.W.’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home on Friday evening, March 13, 2026, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will include Matthew Goddard, Dylan Goddard, Brantley Goddard, and Ronnie Cohran.
