James Lenard "Jimmy" Leatherwood

Mr. James Lenard “Jimmy” Leatherwood, age 79, of Piedmont, AL, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Jimmy was born in Dallas, GA, on April 4, 1947, son of the late William L. Leatherwood and the late Lillian Cole Leatherwood. He spent 20 years of his life in Cedartown before moving to Piedmont 10 years ago. Jimmy enjoyed fishing, yard work, cutting grass, and spending time on his tractor. He loved tinkering around, had a special love for animals, and enjoyed calling friends to catch up and stay connected.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal Leatherwood; his sister, Mary Frances Estes; and his grandson, Mason Leatherwood.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Joan Welchel Leatherwood, whom he married on August 16, 1996; his daughters, Angie Leatherwood and Donna White (Craig); his step-sons, Lacurtis Bentley (Karla) and Kelvin Bentley (Shay); 4 grandchildren, Erica Loyd, Kelsey Pennington, Tyler Brown (Taylor), and Cole Shelton (Courtney); 15 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Charles Leatherwood. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services for Mr. Leatherwood will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Brother Tyler Brown officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 pm until the service hour.
